Methodology — how we calculate
Accuracy is the whole product. This page explains how every CalcSumly calculator is built and kept current.
Where the numbers come from
Every rate, wage base, threshold, and contribution limit is taken directly from the current official source — primarily the IRS (forms, instructions, and publications) and the Social Security Administration for wage bases and cost-of-living adjustments. We never estimate or carry over a figure from memory. The specific sources for each tool are linked on that tool's page.
How each calculator is built
Each tool implements the relevant IRS worksheet or formula as a tested calculation, runs entirely in your browser (we don't see or store your numbers), and is paired with a written explanation of the math plus a worked example. We hand-build each tool rather than mass-generating pages — so each one answers a real question accurately.
Annual updates
Tax figures change every year. Each tool is stamped with the tax year it covers and the date it was last verified, and we re-check every figure each January when the IRS and SSA publish updated numbers. We currently support the following tax years:
- 2026 — last verified 2026-06-21
- 2025 — last verified 2026-06-21
Limitations
These tools are educational estimates, not tax advice. They apply the standard federal rules and can't account for every individual circumstance, state taxes, or edge cases. Always confirm against the cited IRS source or a qualified tax professional before making decisions or filing.
